A healthy way to Summarize a season: devoid of bragging about wins and excusing losses.

SOMETHING WONDERFUL:

When we look at the picture above we all see something similar. We see smiling faces and kids that are eager to grow through lacrosse and build relationships that will last a lifetime. We see a great opportunity to teach them everything that they need to know about lacrosse to help them achieve their goals. We see an even larger opportunity to teach them a process of how to stretch themselves and learn how to ask for more so the lessons they learn in lacrosse transcend the game and help them throughout their lives. We see our future and we all signed up to make it better. 

I want to share some of the wonderful things I saw this Summer:

FROM THE PLAYERS: I SAW…

Kids excited to begin another Summer session together, Kids that had worked on their game and have more to offer the team as a result, excitement around a great play and frustration around mistakes, kids playing hard in practice on some days and struggling to push themselves on others, but caring nonetheless, pregame rituals that united the team and fired everyone up. Great plays and poor plays, Teammates finding the right words and once in a while the wrong words, happiness around wins and disappointment around losses. I saw breakthroughs and setbacks, Sweat- I saw a lot of sweat. I saw each and every one of them suck it up at some point and deliver something wonderful no matter how big or small. I saw caring coaches delivering their message, I saw high fives, smiles, tears, glove bombs, fist pumps, hat swapping after games, I saw a lot of pictures: team pictures, pictures with coaches, pictures with players on other teams, and pictures with your parents. I saw team dinners and some awesome crab smashing, I saw kids playing on different teams and I saw kids playing different positions, I saw everything this sport has to offer anyone brave enough to ask for growth through a team sport. But the one thing I enjoyed the most, and it wasn’t missed, I SAW PROGRESS! LOTS OF PROGRESS! EVERYWHERE.

WORTH ANOTHER LOOK:

When you look at the picture again, take a second and absorb it. There are boys and girls and men and women of all ages all united to help each other find their best and have a positive impact on each other’s lives. This is a big responsibility and at times a challenging one –  requiring all of us: Players, Coaches and Parents alike to test ourselves, be at our best, and at times ground emotions so we can unlock potential in each player by creating experiences that change the way they think, play and relate to each other. 

I am fond of saying, The future gets what the present offers it, I want to thank you for your part in offering your best so your that your contribution makes a difference in the present.

Please accept our thanks for allowing us the opportunity to have a positive impact on your family this Summer. We are looking forward to building on this great momentum as we move into the future. 

We all value the experiences that we are able to provide for our kids, and we all hope they grow through them. Finding healthy ways to express that is worth the effort.

  18. First off I would like to say fantastic blog! I had
    a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you
    don’t mind. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your head prior
    to writing. I have had trouble clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts
    out. I do enjoy writing however it just seems
    like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or
    tips? Thanks!

    1. great question. I like to figure my through line for an article. What single theme or perspective am I looking to get across in the article. Once I figure that out I like to figure out how to introduce the idea in the beginning, then what do I hope the reader will consider and then how I would like to end the conversation and the feeling that I would like to reader to have in the end. I like to write a consider this rather than a here’s how. I write at night and when my ideas dry up I leave it to morning and then add a little each sitting, and finally recheck the tone. IT is rare that I write all in one sitting.
